UPSC CMS 2019 : Syllabus, Pattern, Eligibility, Importance

UPSC CMS (Union Public Service Commission Combined Medical Service) is amongst the hardest competitive examination which will be coming up in the upcoming year 2019.

The examinations who are arranged through the order of UPSC includes Medical Services, Defence Services, Technical, Non-Technical, Civil Services Examinations, Navy etc.

UPSC CMS 2019 Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Aspirants who are contemplating the admission in UPSC CMS exam must be the resident of India
  • Aspirants belonging to Nepal and Bhutan will also be appropriate for the examination.

Exam Center

Examination center will be situated at Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bangalore, Bareilly, Gangtok,  Hyderabad, Itanagar etc.

CMS Paper I Exam Pattern: 

UPSC CMS will be incorporating the two papers- UPSC CMS Paper 1 and UPSC CMS Paper 2.

  • General Ability for 30 marks
  • General Medicine for 70 marks
  • Pediatrics for 20 marks
  • For the incorrect attempt, no disadvantage.
  • The CMS paper will be 2 hours long.

Pattern Surgery:

  • Surgery for 40 marks
  • Gynaecology & Obstetrics for 40 marks
  • Preventive Social and Community Medicine for 40 marks

Aspirants who have are suitable and eligible for the interview round will be appearing for the same after clearing the written.  There is no system like negative marking in both the paper.

CMS Syllabus: For General Ability: 

Indian Society, Polity, Economy,  Indices and the Human Development, Programmes, economy,  The effects of changing demographic trends on health, environment and society, Indian Agriculture, Industry, Transportation, and Service Sectors, Natural and man-made disasters and their management,  Food distribution & adulteration, Recent trends in Science, Storage of Food and their relevance to public health and Technologies, exploitation, Basic concepts of Ecology, Natural Resources, conservation and related issues, and Environment and their impact on health.

Syllabus For General Medicine:

Cardiology, Gastro-intestinal,  Neurology,  Hematology, Endocrinology, Genito-Urinary, Respiratory diseases, Metabolic disorders, Infectious/Communicable Diseases, Nutrition / Growth, Musculoskeletal System, Psychiatry, Diseases of the Skin (Dermatology), General.

Syllabus: For Paediatrics:

Growth and development, Normal newborn, Short stature, precocious and delayed puberty, impaired learning, low birth weight are newborn, Neonatology, sick newborn, developmental delay, Nutrition, complementary feeding, Lactation management, and Renal.
