What is the Selection Process After UPSC CDS II Result?

Earlier Combined Defence Services (CDS) had invited the applications for several officer posts; the UPSC CDS-II 2018 written exam has also been conducted. The candidates are now awaiting the result for the written examination to be declared by UPSC. The CDS 2 result is expected to roll-out in the month of December. Meanwhile, the candidates might be interested in knowing the details about the selection process for UPSC CDS exam.

After the selection process is complete, the qualified candidates will be selected for training courses by the participating institutes. The vacancies will be filled on the basis of the order of merit i.e., a candidate possessing a higher rank will be preferred for the recruitment. The name of recruiting training institutes include Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy. Indian Air-Force Academy, and  Officers Training Academy.

Let’s talk about some important details about UPSC CDS-II Selection Criteria in the table below. The events have been arranged in chronological order in order to avoid any confusion.

Qualification in stage-1 & stage-2 will enable you to submit the copies of important documents as follows:

-10th Class Certificate (Proof of DOB)

-Graduation Degree/ Provisional Degree

-Marksheet of Graduation

It includes the list of roll numbers who qualify in the written exam as well as SSB Interview

Tentative Schedule of UPSC CDS-II Recruitment 2018

As of now, no official dates have been announced by UPSC regarding any of the above events. The written examination was conducted on 18th Nov 2018 and the merit list will be released after the evaluation of marksheets. Meanwhile, you can refer to the tentative schedule given below:

Round 1: Written Exam: Although you have already appeared for the written examination, you must recollect the details in order to understand the selection process in a better manner.

How to qualify: You can qualify in the written exam only if you are able to achieve marks above the minimum eligibility score. Have a look at CDS 2 cut-off 2017 below:

Merit List Preparation: The UPSC CDS-2 (2018) Result will be uploaded on the official website of UPSC. The result includes the release of merit list (pdf format) displaying the list of shortlisted candidates’ roll numbers. The roll numbers of the candidates are arranged in the order of merit. Those who have scored marks equal to or above the cutoff will appear in the merit list.  

Registration to receive SSB Interview Call Letter: If you find your roll number in the merit list then you will be required to register yourself on the recruiting directorate website (www.joinindianarmy.nic.in). Those who fail to register within the stipulated time period will not be issued interview call letter.

Round 2: CDS 2 Interview (SSB Interview): This round is a two-stage selection process which follows after the qualification in written exam. Both stages are qualifying in nature and elimination in either one of the stages means that the aspirant will not be considered for further selection. It is mandatory to score minimum qualifying marks in the interview round for each candidate irrespective of the post he/she applied for.

Document submission: Those who clear stage 1 & stage 2 will need to submit the copies of their documents as prescribed in Table 1.

Final Merit List: The final merit list will be prepared based on the aggregate marks (combined marks in the written exam and SSB interview). Your roll number will feature in the merit list only if you have secured minimum qualifying marks in both the rounds.
